What Is MOTS-C?
MOTS-C is a mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) encoded by mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). It is studied for its role in regulating metabolism, energy production, and cellular adaptation to stress, with particular interest in how it influences mitochondrial function and metabolic health in longevity oriented research.
Mechanisms of Action
Energy metabolism regulation that supports glucose metabolism, fat oxidation, and cellular energy production by improving mitochondrial efficiency.
Fat loss and metabolic efficiency signaling that promotes lipolysis, increases energy expenditure, and supports body composition endpoints.
Insulin sensitivity and glucose regulation effects that may improve insulin responsiveness, enhance glucose uptake, and support blood sugar stability in metabolic health models.
Benefits
Metabolic health and weight management support signals, with fat loss oriented endpoints while preserving lean mass in some study contexts.
Anti-aging and longevity interest through mitochondrial protection and reduced oxidative damage signals linked to age related metabolic decline.
Increased energy and endurance related endpoints through improved cellular resilience and physical performance measures in active or athletic models.
Dosing
Strength | Dose |
|---|---|
Low | 500 mcg per day |
Medium | 750 mcg per day |
High | 1 to 2 mg per day |
SS-31 may need to be ran first if mitochondria are damaged. See protocol below.
Phase 1: SS-31 at 5 mg daily for 2 weeks
Phase 2: Add MOTS-C at 0.5-1 mg daily, reduce SS-31 to 1 mg daily for 4 weeks
Phase 3: Drop SS-31, continue MOTS-C and add any other mitochondrial agents such as 5-Amino-1MQ, NAD+, SLU-PP-332, etc.
Safety Profile
MOTS-C is commonly described as well tolerated, with relatively few adverse effects reported.
Mild injection site discomfort such as redness or swelling can occur.
Transient fatigue during an adjustment period is sometimes noted as the system adapts to increased mitochondrial activity.
